Today (Thursday 6th Feb) saw twenty children from Year 3 & 4 take part in the regional hockey festival, organised by Manx Sport and Recreation. The children were split into 3 squads, the Aces, Arrows and Astros. The Aces and Arrows were pitted against each other in group A, and both completed their group fixtures undefeated, with the Arrows top and the Aces coming second. The Astros finished second in their group, meaning all three teams progressed into the semi-finals - a fantastic effort!
The semi-finals saw the Arrows progress, but only on goal difference from the group stage. The Aces lost to Balloacottier in their semi-final, in an extremely close encounter. After a goal-less match between the Aces and Arrows, both teams shared 3rd place. In an exciting final, the Arrows squad were pipped by Ballacottier. Both the Arrows and Ballacottier head through to the National Finals next Tuesday to represent the Eastern region. Well done to all the players, who I hope are inspired to continue playing hockey for one of our local clubs!
